Beaune and the great outdoors
Beaune offers 31 circular walking routes, from family discovery trails to hikes for all abilities.
With more than 470 km of marked, safe and labelled trails, there is something for everyone in the Beaune area: cliffs, vineyards, historic trails, etc. During your walk, you will discover various treasures: a pretty little Romanesque church, a castle, a dolmen, orchids, a peregrine falcon and beautiful wine-growing villages with narrow streets...
Two major themed routes will delight experienced walkers: the Chemin des Grands Crus (Grand Cru Way) for an 87 km hike from Maranges to Dijon criss-crossing the great vineyards, and the Combes & des Crêtes (Valleys and Ridges) trail with its 63 km of exceptional scenery along the cliffs.
Many other activities are also available: bowling, hot-air balloon flights, microlighting, helicopter trips, 18-hole golf course, horse riding, cooking lessons, quad biking, karting, high ropes courses, etc.
UNESCO-listed Bourgogne vineyards
In the making for over 2000 years, Burgundy's vineyards have been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2015 thanks to their "Climats" (vineyard parcels).
These Burgundy "climates" have Outstanding Universal Value and are world-renowned treasures. There are 1247 Climates with evocative names like Montrachet, Romanée-Conti, Clos de Vougeot, Corton, Musigny and Chambertin that reflect the cultural diversity of Burgundy wine growing.
What makes them unique is that they have constantly sought to reference place (Climate) and time (vintage) as wine production quality markers. This search comes into its own along the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, on the 60 kilometres that link Dijon to Santenay, where the Climates form a mosaic of unique vineyards.
Just as with the creation of the AOCs (PDOs) in 1936, UNESCO’s recognition of the Burgundy terroir model guarantees the site will be protected and passed on to future generations.
Cycle tourism in the Côte d'Or
Thanks to the Voie des Vignes (Vineyard Trail), which winds its way through the prestigious Burgundy vineyards, you can discover the Côte d'Or and its heritage in a different way.
This unique itinerary joins the Canal du Centre (EuroVelo 6) and takes you from Dijon to Santenay and Châlon-sur-Saône, passing through Beaune. You will pass through villages with names that will make wine lovers green with envy: Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosnes-Romanée.
